Up-do vs Down-do

With Spring racing just around the corner, we thought it would be a perfect time to catch up with Nadine Bonello from Kodo Hair to find out the trends for this Spring. Nadine has 20-years experience as a hairdresser and works behind the scenes of LMFF with Kevin Murphy.

Firstly, Spring racing is about a complete look from head to toe. So when it comes to the final stages of hair and grooming, make sure your outfit, shoes, accessories, make-up and hair compliment one another to create an overall look. Go dressed in your racing outfit to the hairdresser and ask your stylist to work your outfit in with your hair for the day. See a make-up artist if required to ensure hair and make-up work hand in hand.

Here are Nadine’s tips for stylish Spring racing hair.

1. A Part

A simple, centre part is versatile yet super-chic. Teamed with an untidy up-do it can create a timeless regal look. Sweep hair up and loosely fasten at back in a knot or bun to create effortless style.

If you prefer a down-do, keep hair sleek and simple and parted at the front. Or, go for a more feminine look with soft waves. A salt spray is great to add texture and movement in the hair. Whether you opt for hair up or down or manicured or messy, a simple centre part can work for any style.

2. Knots or Braided Buns

Tightly wound knots or braids swept into a bun create a cool, put together look. A low chignon up-do creates a feminine, romantic intrigue and a simple stylish look for spring. Keep hair sleek at the front and pull back into a low ponytail, twist hair around and pin to achieve your desired knot or simply braid hair from sides to back and pull into a low twisted bun.

3. Waves

As we know, the 90s are back and this hair trend takes inspiration from a cool, grunge look. Tousled, soft waves giving the effect that the hair hasn’t really been done at all create a natural, flowing effect. Although this look appears effortless and untidy, it does take some time to create. Using a volumising foam in damp hair can help create this messy, uncomplicated look – or spray hair with a salt spray and scrunch the ends then rough up hair with fingers.
