Megan Hess
Megan Hess was destined to draw. One phone call in the middle of the night changed everything for this talented woman with drive who has now worked with some of the most sought-after names in the business.
woman with drive were lucky enough to catch up with the talented international illustrator and asked her a few burning questions.
What are your career highlights?
In 2006 I got a call in the middle of the night from Candace Bushnell’s publisher asking if I would illustrate her next novel ‘One Fifth Avenue’. This was when things took off at rapid speed for me. Her book became a New York Times best seller and I met with Candace and she asked me to illustrate all her previous books including the cover of ‘Sex and The City’. Once ‘Sex and the City’ was released I was contacted by TIME magazine and Vanity Fair in New York to create portraits for them. This was a dream come true and definitely a career highlight. Following this, I began illustrating for Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Dior, Cartier, Vanity Fair, Italian Vogue, Bergdorf Goodman, Laduree…..Every job since the covers I created for Candace Bushnell has felt like a highlight!
What projects are you most proud of?
Probably the most recent works that I did for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation. I created a collection of images for the foundation with the aim to raise awareness. The images were displayed on Billboards, at airports, and in magazines. I felt incredibly proud of that work and of becoming a Creative Patron for them.
Is there anyone/ any brand you would love to work with?
I would love to work with some of the highly creative Japanese companies; I think that would be fun. Nearly all my work is based with the US and Europe but I have a huge interest in Japan and find their culture and approach to creative work really interesting.
What can we expect to see in the future?
More of the things I love to do and create. I have new print collections on the way and I have just released my first rug collection with designer Rugs – called ‘The Vintage Jewels’. I have long admired the incredible work that they produce so I was thrilled to collaborate with them and create my first collection.
Megan has just released her first illustration book – Fashion House – that showcases her keen eye for design and signature style.
