Makeup From Dusk To Dawn

day to night make up

Have you ever looked at snapshots taken at the tail end of a big night out and wondered what on earth happened to the flawless makeup you knew you had on when you stepped out the front door? Smudged, smeared or faded makeup does not make for good social media photos – or memories – so here are seven easy tips for taking your look from dusk to dawn.

#1: Take Care Of The T-Zone

Oil and dirt on your skin are the main culprits of smudged and smeared makeup. The five minutes it will take to cleanse and tone will be well worth it. If you have an extra minute, throw in an exfoliation step so your make up does not flake off with any dry skin. We love: The Refining Facial by La Mer

#2: Take Your Moisturiser Lightly

Jurlique

The summer heat may require extra hydration but a rich moisturiser will accelerate the fading of your makeup. Pop on a moisturing mask instead and follow with a light moisturiser, steering clear of the T-zone. Wait 15 minutes for it to soak into your skin before applying make up. #3: Honour Prime Time

As makeup king, Napoleon Perdis, says, “Not to prime is a crime!” Smooth a primer all over your face including your eyelids. The silicone in the primer will prevent your skin’s natural oils from breaking down your makeup and stop your foundation from settling into any pores or fine lines. #4: The Powder-Cream Team

Chantecaille and Clinique

Blend a cream colour onto your eyelids and cheeks before dusting a powder in the same shade over it. The cream will hold the powder in place while the powder will keep the cream from fading. We love: Cheek Gelee Happy Blush by Chantecaille and Blushing Blush Powder Blush by Clinique

#5: Pencil and Pat

Apply an oily lip balm and then gently run a soft toothbrush over your lips for exfoliation. Fill in your entire lip with a long-wearing lip pencil and then use your finger to pat a thin layer of lipstick over it. We love: Automatique Lip Crayon and Lipslique by surratt beauty

#6: Blot The Spot

Blotting your skin throughout the day will take off the oily build up and keep your makeup on a lot longer. We love: Pureness Oil Control Blotting Paper by Shiseido

#7: Stop The Disappearing Act

The final magic is cast by sheer, colourless loose powder. Use a soft, fluffy eye shadow brush to dust it over the nose, chin and centre of the forehead where the makeup usually disappears first. We love: Sheer Finish Loose Powder by Bobbi Brown
