In with the Old
Before you begin your annual wardrobe overhaul, we suggest reading this guide to 2014 trends. While some of your looks from last year might rightfully deserve to be disposed of, there are plenty of items to hold on to. This year, it may be a case of out with the old, in with the ‘old’.
Here are 5 looks from last year that you can keep wearing into 2014, according to www.fashioning.com:
1. Checks
Checks, gingham and plaid was nearly everywhere in 2013, especially when it came to mixing print and monochrome. Hold on to your Scottish style this year and keep wearing anything with checks. It’s the perfect trans-seasonal print and will take you from a cool, grunge casual look, to classic country chic.
2. Pyjamas
Pyjamas as daywear are an interesting concept, and will be sure to solve a lot of early-morning wardrobe meltdowns. If you were one to rock this runway trend in 2013, then keep it going in 2014. Pyjama-inspired pantsuits and dresses were a big hit with Marc Jacobs last year, and the perfect sleek ensemble for Spring dressing. If you’re brave enough to sport your pyjamas outside of the house in 2014, our advice is to keep it simple and stick to a sleek dress or chic pair of silk pants.
3. Metallics
How can we ever forget those iconic Burberry metallic trench coats? Those vibrant colours and wicked lurex fabrics were a statement to remember. If you were bold enough to purchase this daring number, then prepare to bare again. Metallic is here to stay this year, so get your hands on anything reflective, bright and glossy. The shinier the better, so grab anything gold for the perfect Midas touch.
4. The 90s
The 90s – the golden age of boy bands, Britney Spears, overalls, and grunge. If you thought this decade had ceased to see the light of day, you are sadly mistaken. 90s grunge is here to stay well into the new year, so channel your inner rock-chic and keep up the attitude.
5. Florals
Florals are surely one of the most enduring prints around and are back for another year. Whether it’s an over-sized flower or a small pattern, anything floral is right on trend. We’ll be sure to see plenty of this pattern throughout the year, especially when the Spring Racing Carnival arrives.
So, there is our insight scoop to 2014 fashion, so before you race out to purchase an outfit for the new year, you might just have plenty of perfect pieces already lying around.
