Angelique Kerber & The Panamera Turbo: A Meeting Of Two Top Athletes
After her triumph at the US Open in New York, new world No. 1 Angelique Kerber is back in Munich. And waiting to greet the her at the airport was another incredible athlete – the Panamera Turbo.
The Porsche Brand Ambassador did not waste any time getting behind the steering wheel and driving the 404 kW gran turismo to the photo shoot and press roundtable.
Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche, Oliver Blume, congratulated Angelique immediately after her win at the final in New York and said, “In climbing to the top of the world rankings and winning the US Open, Angelique Kerber has written sports history. She’s a fantastic sportswoman and a role model that young people can base themselves on. We are proud of our brand ambassador.”
Angelique is the first German to top the rankings since Steffi Graf in 1997. The impressive journey that led to the pinnacle of tennis began in January with her first Grand Slam win at the Australian Open.
After reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the two-time Porsche Tennis Grand Prix winner clinched her second Grand Slam title of the year in the U.S. on 11 September, 2016.
“As a kid, I dreamed of becoming the number 1 and of winning Grand Slams. It’s all come true,” said the 28-year old after her victory. “My journey began here in New York in 2011. That now five years later I’ve won the US Open and am the number 1 is amazing. I’m so happy.”
The Panamera Turbo, meanwhile, has been named the sports car among luxury saloons for its redesigned engines and transmissions, perfected chassis and futuristic display and control concept. It recently set a new record of 7:38 minutes for a four-door car around the legendary Nürburgring North Loop.
